“The human being who acts is the human being who lives”

- Lee Strasberg

I studied theatre performance at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts at Playwrights Horizons Theatre School and at The University at Buffalo, where I received my BFA in musical theatre performance. Buffalo, NY is home and I’m incredibly grateful to be a part of such a passionate, dedicated and hard working artistic community. I also teach as an adjunct theatre instructor at D’Youville College. Thanks for taking the time to learn a bit about me and more importantly, thank you for supporting the arts and live theatre.

 Much love,

Ben M.

a few words that inspire me

What do you see? How does it make you feel?
— Michael Krass, Broadway designer (and former professor of mine at NYU)

I repeat this one often in my head. In rehearsal. Walking around the city, taking in my surroundings. When I'm in an audience or a gallery. It's always there with me.

Controlled hysteria is what’s required. To exist constantly in a state of controlled hysteria. It’s agony. But everyone has agony. The difference is that I try to take my agony home and teach it to sing.
— Arthur Miller

Therefore let your soul exalt your reason to the height of passion; that it may sing; and let it direct your passion with reason, that your passion may live through its own daily resurrection, and like the phoenix rise above its own ashes.”

“You work that you may keep pace with the earth and the soul of the earth.
For to be idle is to become a stranger unto the seasons, and to step out of life’s procession, that marches in majesty and proud submission towards the infinite.”

“When you work you are a flute through whose heart the whispering of the hours turns to music.Which of you would be a reed, dumb and silent, when all else sings together in unison?
— Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet

I’m curious about other people. That’s the essence of my acting. I’m interested in what it would be like to be you.
— Meryl Streep

Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, empathy, and creativity. It is the source of hope, empathy, accountability, and authenticity. If we want greater clarity in our purpose or deeper and more meaningful spiritual lives, vulnerability is the path.
— Brené Brown, Ph.D., LMSW, Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead

The truth is humbling, terrifying, and often exhilarating. It blows the doors off the hinges and fills the world with fresh air.”

“Truthfulness itself is almost medication, even when it’s served without advice or insight.”

”You need to grab your dream out of the sky like it’s a kite and pinch the string through your fingers until you reach the spool.
— Augusten Burroughs, This is How...For Young and Old Alike
